Kibabii University on Tuesday 14th June, 2022 launched a Multimillion Information Communication and Technology Hub worth KES 64.6M.

KIBU Commissions Multi-Million NRF Funded Laboratories

The Vice Chancellor Prof. Isaac Ipara Odeo on Thursday 7th April, 2022 commissioned three laboratories that werebco-funded by National Research Fund (NRF) and Kibabii University.

The Digital Forensics Laboratory, the Mobile Computing and Professional CISCO Laboratories are part of the Five Laboratories that were funded by the NRF ICT Infrastructure Grant Award of Kenya Shillings 64.6 million. The two others, namely: Data Centre and Video Conferencing facilities were commissioned earlier on 20th November, 2020.   The projects were born out of a team led by The Principal Investigator Prof. Franklin Wabwoba. Others include: Prof. Samwel Mbuguah, Dr. Samuel Barasa, Dr. Yonah Etene, Dr. Patrick Owoche, Mr. Juma Kilwake, Ms Dorcus Shisoka and Mr. Dan Khaoya, all from School of Computing and Informatics of Kibabii University.

The project was implemented by Innovative Technologies, a Kenyan based ICT Infrastructure Company.

According to Prof. Mbuguah, these laboratories will enrich the ICT facilities at Kibabii University and enhance the teaching of new programmes like Master of Science in Digital Forensics. They will also support the training of students in networking by making use of CISCO laboratories as well as enhancing the ccurriculum to keep abreast with the modern trends in mobile computing technologies. The setting up of the Data Centre will also upscale revenues streams after full commercialization to the Lake Region Economic Bloc. Based on this facility, the Lake Region Bloc has recognised Kibabii University as Centre of excellence in ICT and Engineering.
